Who We Are
Founders and SCI-FIT Staff
Dan Dumas & Annabelle Constantin
Founders, CEO and CFO
On June 3rd, 2005 Dan was hit by a wave while vacationing in Maui and broke his neck, leaving him with a C-5 incomplete spinal cord injury. He spent three months in the hospital after fusing his cervical vertebrae. Dan was told repeatedly that would never walk again, let alone move anything below his level of injury.
Dan and his wife, Annabelle, refused to believe this prognosis and began searching for alternative therapies for spinal cord injuries. One week after being discharged from the hospital they moved to Southern California to start an intense exercise-based recovery program. Dan began working out two hours a day five days a week. Dan saw tremendous progress within the first couple months and by the sixth month mark, Dan took his first steps in a walker. By the end of his program, Dan was no longer using a wheelchair, and walked with a walker or crutches full time.
Dan and Annabelle decided they wanted to create an opportunity for individuals with spinal cord injuries to participate in an aggressive therapy program without having to re-locate. Dan and Annabelle opened SCI-FIT Pleasanton in 2007 and have been in integral part of the business operations of the company. In 2014 a second location was opened in Sacramento making this program available to more people with neurological disorders in Northern California.
Lance Hansen
Co-Founder, Co-Owner, Vice President
Lance grew up in Palo Cedro, CA where he enjoyed the beautiful outdoors of Mount Shasta wake boarding, snow boarding, sking, camping, hunting and playing soccer. In the summer of 2012 while at work he was injured and sustained a spinal cord injury at the chest level making him a T5/T6 incomplete paraplegic. He spent three months in the hospital and was told time and time again he would probably never walk. Refusing to accept this fate, Lance searched alternative therapies and found SCIFIT. He fell instantly in love with the programming and for the first time saw hope in his recovery. Lance has been devoted and dedicated to his workouts at SCIFIT for over 6 years. He pushes himself everyday to continue improving and breaking past every boundary that he was told he would never be able to do. Along with working out hard at SCIFIT Lance has taken part in two medical trials, Stem Cells in Switzerland and he has an epidural stimulator placed on his spine.
SCIFIT inspired Lance to help others in the same position. Lance has joined the SCIFIT team of co-founders in 2019. He hopes to make this type of therapy available to all and never let anyone feel like they don’t have a chance for recovery.
